After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1980, Jim was a partner of Harriston-Mount Forest Veterinary Services, and later the owner of Fairles Veterinary Services, a mixed practice in Mount Forest, Ontario. In 2002 and 2003, he worked with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as a veterinarian in China, where he worked in training veterinarians in swine health and production. Jim came to the AHL as the Client Services Veterinarian in 2004.
Jim is involved with various veterinary associations on the local, provincial and national levels. He has previously served as Eastern Canada’s representative in the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, and has been involved with the Ontario and Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners for several years. He is also a member of the Ontario and Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians and currently President of CASV, Poultry Practitioners and Small Ruminant Veterinarians of Ontario. He has served as the Ontario representative on the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) council and is Past President of CVMA and a past chair of the Canadian Animal Health Coalition and currently sits as the CVMA representative to the National Farmed Animal Heath and Welfare Council
On a personal level , Jim lives in Elora now and in his spare time enjoys cycling, triathlons, astrophotography and aviation, and enjoying his grandchildren.
